The story of Noah, tells of his belief in God: despite the unbelief and jeers of those around him: and of a new beginning, through his obedient faith.
 

‘IS RELIGION OBSCURING OUR VIEW OF THE SPIRITUAL?’

Many Christians, when talking about their personal faith: express frustration at their lack of progress, and ask:  ‘Why do I feel stuck; and not getting anywhere in particular?’

DO NOT THINK OF YOURSELF MORE HIGHLY THAN YOU OUGHT.

Some Christians, when first coming across St. Paul’s teaching, see this text in a negative way: interpreting it as a call to a form of humility, that requires them to think of themselves in a ‘downward’ manner; bordering on self- deprecation.   But St. Paul does not actually say that.

BE PREPARED TO DISCOVER NEW THINGS, IN OLD CONTEXTS.

When the Jews lived under Roman rule: they had little freedom in the present, and little hope of the future. So: they attached great importance to their past; for they had little else to go on.
 

'THE WOMAN AT THE WELL' + MISSION.

Samaria, once part of Palestine: had most its Jews taken into captivity, at Babylon. Those left behind: became slaves of the Babylonians who moved south, to occupy Palestine.

THE WISE MEN

We know very little about who the ‘Wise men’ were: but we do know a good deal about the meaning of their gifts, of gold, frankincense, and myrrh; to the infant Christ.

THE PRODIGAL SON - Luke 15: 11-32.

Christ's parable of 'The Prodigal Son' has two main points to it; the attitude of the Father, towards his wayward son; and the attitude of the elder son, towards his brother.

JOHN THE BAPTIST - THE FORERUNNER. Based upon John 1: 19-42. & Luke 3:1-20).

JOHN 1:19-22. John the Baptist was an honest man. He did not claim more for himself than he should.

COVENANT SERVICE - 2007.

Throughout the year, Christian festivals encourage special thought, and prayer, about matters of our faith: especially salvation in Christ; new life given through him; spiritual guidance to lead us; and the grace to follow.
